Yarmouth Recreation Sailing

Hi, I'm Michael and I have been sailing and teaching here for the past 11 years. Lets break this down into pros and cons: Pros: - Very friendly and caring staff - Safe place to learn to sail and send your kids (or go yourself) - Have Knockabouts (Instructional), Lasers (Beginner Racing), and C420 class (Advanced Racing) sailboats - Lewis Bay is a perfect place to learn (Chill environment) - Advanced racing goes to Regattas - Open to all ages (7+) - If you have your own boat, you can store/use it with Yarmouth Sailing's boats. Cons: - You will not go out if the wind is over 15 mph. Normal clubs and school teams typically call it at 25mph+. You will not be sailing every day. (I think this is ridiculous) - They do not have enough budget to carry out much needed repairs on the racing boats (Not critical, but stops them from getting top placements in regattas) - Not a competitive racing program: Beginner racing is more about having fun (which I think is good), but Advanced Racing lacks an experienced racing coach. My story: 12 years ago I was scared of boats and the water. After some persuasion from my dad, I joined the Instructional class. 1 year later I moved up to beginner racing, and in two moved up to advanced racing. After some time, I started teaching Beginner Racing as a Junior Instructor (Community Service Hours for High School). I sailed for my High School sailing team, and Yarmouth Sailing was my goto over-the-summer practice spot. Overall impression: It's an awesome, affordable place to learn to sail and get comfortable with the water, however the racing program is not as competitive as other options in the area. P.S.
