Westwind Sailing · Private

Westwind Sailing runs youth sailing and paddling day camps at Baby Beach in Dana Point Harbor, grouped by age: Mini Mates for ages 6-8 and Voyager for ages 11-13, among other classes and camps on its Dana Point schedule. Programs combine on-the-water sailing instruction with paddling, and private lessons are also offered. Westwind awards scholarships to eligible youth, including members of the Boys & Girls Club and other community organizations, and considers other circumstances that would otherwise prevent a child from participating.

My wife and I took the Intro to Sailing class and had a blast! Diane is amazing! Not only is she a really fun instructor, she is very knowledgeable and knows how to make it easy to understand. Couldn’t be happier with our experience and would highly recommend for anyone who has ever thought about the idea of sailing! We’ll absolutely be back. Thanks Diane!

This was our second year attending Westwind Sailing, and once again, it exceeded our expectations! My boys absolutely love this camp — the sailing, the teamwork, the fun — it’s all top notch. This year, we ran into an unexpected situation where one of my sons wasn’t able to attend, even though we had signed up well in advance. Based on the camp’s policy, Westwind could have easily told us there was nothing they could do — but they did the opposite. They were quick to respond, incredibly understanding, and went out of their way to accommodate us. In a world where customer service can be hit-or-miss, their compassion and professionalism really stood out. Another lovely moment: during the “practice capsizing” day, my elderly parents came to watch. Without us asking, the amazing staff brought out chairs for them so they could sit and enjoy the event comfortably. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and speaks volumes about the team behind this camp. We’re so grateful for everything Westwind Sailing offers — from the wonderful instruction to the truly kind and caring staff. Highly recommend this camp to anyone considering it!

Staff are friendly. You can rent a boat for light, casual trip with the kids, and dogs are welcome too. Go ahead and give them a try.

Highly recommend Westwind sailing! By far the best sailing course I’ve taken. My fiancée and I signed up for adult sailing 1. The instructors were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. You get clear classroom instruction and plenty of sailing time (including capsize drills and ocean sailing!) across multiple Saturdays. Loved the experience and looking forward to adult sailing 2!

I went there yesterday for kayaking. The staff were very professional and helpful. This was my first time kayaking. I rented the kayak for 1 hour but I had trouble coming back in time. They were not strict with my return as they knew this was my first time. Also it was very windy yesterday. I will definitely go back. Highly recommend them.
