We really wanted to get my daughter away from electronics this summer and summer camp at Sea Base Aquatics Center has been perfect for that. The staff is wonderful and she's really enjoying activities at the beach. Painless drop off and pick up. Highly recommend this program for your kiddos regardless of if they are in scouts or not.

We went kayaking last weekend, and the experience left a lot to be desired. They have a morning session from 9 - 12, and we were there at 8:30. They refused to let us in until 9 a.m., which is fine, as that's when it starts, but as with any activity, preparation is key. There was no preparation here. The lifeguards didn't arrive until 9 a.m. on the dot, and then spent over an hour pulling the kayaks out to the water, distributing the life vests and paddles, and educating us on water safety. We could have been out a lot earlier had they just done a little prep work. Everything was made more complicated by the fact that they didn't have enough kayaks for everyone, and bluntly informed us that some of us would have to use canoes, which is not what we signed up for. For those of us who were trying kayaking for the first time, it was an unexpected announcement, as canoes are a lot bigger, heavier, and harder to handle. It further demonstrated just how unorganized this place is, as this event was booked with them at least 3 weeks in advance, so it seemed strange that they didn't have enough kayaks for our group, considering we had booked and paid weeks before. The lifeguards, 4 of them, didn't help any of us push the kayaks and canoes into the water, which again, was odd, because many of us were newbies, and had told them this several times. Once in the water, my son and I took our time, becoming comfortable with the paddles, and taking in the scenery. They told us we were to paddle down to where the jellyfish were, but didn't provide a map or any directions other than, "Follow the group." By the time my son and I got into the water (we were toward the back of the line), the group was already ahead. We didn't think it was a problem, as we still had almost 2 hours to go; however it was a problem for the lifeguard who was shoring up the back, who seemed surly, and acted like we were inconveniencing him (there were 4 lifeguards, but only one introduced herself, Bella. The other 3 were men: one was about 5'5" with sandy reddish-blond hair; the other was tall with brown hair; and the third one we had to deal with was about 5'6" with long brown hair and a beard). As my son and I paddled along, he barked directions to us until, feeling like we were taking too long, he ordered us to grab onto the side of the raft being driven by another lifeguard, and pulled us to the jellyfish. It only took approximately 1-1.5 minutes, which gives you an idea of how close to the group we already were, making it completely unnecessary. It ruined the experience for me and my son, making us feel like slow pokes, and hurrying us along when there was no rush. Once there, we looked at the jellyfish for 10 minutes before leaving to take our time paddling back to the base. The whole experience was poorly organized and executed, and run by lifeguards who acted like they were being put out even though they were paid to be there. They acted like we were the problem even though it was their fault we were so late in starting due to their subpar organizational skills and failure to adequately plan, i.e., have enough kayaks on hand for a group booked weeks prior.
