LifeSail is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community sailing center founded in 2003 in Marina del Rey that teaches sailing and seamanship alongside science, technology, engineering and math content. Its summer program runs 9am-3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and is designed for students ages 8-18; every student takes a swim safety test on the first day regardless of age or years in the program. The organization's stated focus is character-building programs for underserved and at-risk youth.

I sailed with the Mariner Girl Scouts as a youth and learned so much about geometry, navigation, respect for the ocean, caution, knots, responsibility, and teamwork, in addition to sailing.
