King Harbor Youth Foundation · Private
King Harbor Youth Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sailing school established in 1982 and hosted at the King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach. Summer sailing runs as four two-week sessions split into morning (9am-noon) and afternoon (1-4pm) half-day classes, plus a one-week full-day warm-up week (9am-4pm) in June; there is no after care and pickup is at class end. Sailors ages 7-18 are placed by level, from beginner Optimist classes and group Adventure Sailing on a 24-foot keelboat to Flying Junior doublehanded classes and afternoon race classes; all campers take a swim test on the first day and introductory classes stay inside the harbor breakwater. Scholarships are funded through the Hood Scholarship fund and the California Division of Boating and Waterways.
