Youth sailing at King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach is taught by the King Harbor Youth Foundation, a US Sailing accredited sailing school that has run junior sailing in the harbor for more than 50 years. Summer classes are two-week sessions, Monday through Friday, split into morning (9am-noon) and afternoon (1pm-4pm) half-days, and serve sailors ages 7-18 across beginner and intermediate Optimist classes, Flying Junior doublehanded sailing and Martin 242 adventure sailing. A year-round junior race team is available for sailors competing in youth regattas, and scholarships plus a community outreach program help under-served families participate.

One two week course teaches the child all the basics of real sailing and small boat handling. Repeating the Opti1 level and further levels keep adding to a child who takes away real seamanship, lessons, and memories for a lifetime. The confidence building happens right before your eyes. The children smile all day. They work together to accomplish their tasks and compete together in small races. Priceless

Lounge areas are nice and open, clean/modern facilities, plenty of dock space, there's a boat hoist, dry storage, a private parking lot and small boats to rent. It's a very nice club. The Youth Foundation teaches kids to sail and does summer camps. Lunch on the outdoor patio is always delightful/a great view of Boomer and all her sea lion guests. Club Fleets are great way to meet other boaters as we were new to the area when we joined. Have really enjoyed our time so far and making lots of new friends.
