Irving Park YMCA
Private
Irving Park YMCA is a branch of the nonprofit YMCA of Metro Chicago at 4251 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago, and one of more than fifteen Y sites running Y Summer Camp. Traditional camp days include an opening circle, snack, physical activity, experiential learning, lunch, choice time and a closing circle, often with swimming and on-site or off-site field trips; specialty camps cover STEAM topics such as tinkering, robotics, cooking and detective work, and sports and aquatics camps follow their own curriculums. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with before care (7-9 a.m.) and after care (4-6 p.m.) included at no extra cost; camps are ACA-accredited, financial assistance and CCAP are accepted, and an inclusion team supports campers with disabilities.

Powered by GoogleVery disappointed with communication with the childcare lead staff department for summer programs for AFC. I’ve dropped off a paper to get filled out 3 days ago , sent emails, tried getting in contact left voicemails for Michael and mark and not one means of communication had been brought forward.
I will not recommend this location. The website indicates supportive environment, but what I witnessed, raised serious concerns. An elderly resident with an obvious physical impairment was denied permission for a non-resident to help carry his belongings upstairs, even after it was explained that he has cancer. Denying basic assistance in a situation like this shows a troubling lack of compassion and regard for safety, especially for vulnerable people. If residents with serious health conditions are not supported in such basic needs, it calls into question the standards of care and judgment of staff, management, concerns if others require assistance will they be unassited. I hope this doesn't happen again.
I have found this to be just what i needed. There are several classes that i enjoy very much, as well as getting a good workout, and a few others i want to try. The cardio and weight rooms on the first floor have lots of up-to-date equipment, and there is another weight room for the really serious lifters. Everyone working there has been great, and i have met lots of friendly people. It is an older building, and the pool is just a pool, not a fancy one with a play area, but it is a nice pool, and the temperature is just right. If you have been meaning to check it out, go for it!
Only hit the weight room this morning. Well maintained facility with a good variety of machines and quite a few squat racks. Dumbbells up to 100 pounds. They call it the "Bears Den" and it's full of Bear's memorabilia.
I was very impressed. The center has the charm and character of an older YMCA. It’s also got much more and better equipment than I had expected. I visited during COVID, and the cleanliness and customer service far surpassed what I had expected. Adding a few pictures here to help show a bit more of what’s available.
