Nonprofit community sailing program on Irondequoit Bay offering hands-on classes for kids and teens ages 8-17, taught by US Sailing-certified instructors and junior counselors in Pram dinghies, Sunfish and JY15s. Youth Beginner covers rigging, steering, tacking, gybing, reading the wind and capsize recovery through games and teamwork, with intermediate, Bridge to Racing and race clinic levels above it. Families choose half-day sessions (8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4:30 p.m., $235/week) or full-day (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., $420/week); classes are kept small and boats and gear are provided. Financial assistance is available through the organization's scholarship fund, and teens 14-16 can join a Counselor in Training leadership track.
