Huntington Harbour Yacht Club hosts the summer youth sailing program of the Huntington Beach Sailing Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that has taught children to sail at the club for over 45 years. Sailors ages 6 to 18 enroll in four- to eight-week summer sessions covering water safety, rigging, and sailing technique in single-handed Naples sabots and Optimist dinghies, advancing to two-person boats at intermediate and advanced levels; instructors are US Sailing certified. The program is aimed at families outside the sailing world: boats are supplied and classes are capped at about 50 children. Each summer the foundation grants tuition-free spots to economically disadvantaged children, children with physical handicaps, and children of deployed military families.
