Foothills Nature School is a fully outdoor nature school set on 14 acres in Enumclaw, where children spend the day in the forest and around the school's animals, which include peacocks and pigs. Alongside a nature preschool for ages 2.5 and up, it runs a forest kindergarten for grades K-2, homeschool enrichment during the school year, and summer camps. Staffing is one teacher for every six children. It is a private school and is not licensed by Washington's Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

The opportunity for our boys to be outside, exploring, and moving is such a gift. We especially appreciated the balance of guided learning and child-led outdoor play, which allowed our kids to learn in a way that felt natural and fun. Some days my son would come home saying he learned “nothing” all day—and as a parent, I knew that meant he had been learning so much through play and joy that he didn’t even realize it. We also love their summer camps—they’re a highlight for our family. On top of that, they host great community-building events like trick-or-treating and other family activities, which makes it feel even more special. Highly recommend!

I especially love how flexible they are compared to other programs we tried and the animals and nature are amazing! (Pigs, cows, peacocks & more) Other daycares we visited had high teacher turnover but DEFINITELY not at Foothills. We’ve seen the same teachers for years! All of the staff is wonderful. They hold family events, which are a highlight of the season (Halloween, Mother’s Day) with games, a bouncy house, art and prizes. The kids learn so much at Foothills too. I was shocked to learn that my child was already writing letters at such a young age. There’s a ton more I could write! Foothills is such an incredible place and so wonderful for kids.

My son has flourished in his time at foothills. We are on year two and now my younger two sons are going as well! The teachers are so kind, calm, and obviously love what they do. Even on rainy days when I feel bad about dropping them off, they still have a blast. The school has also been a great drop-in option for days when I need additional childcare. They are flexible and great with communication.
