Camp Winnebago

Our oldest boy just finished attending Winnebago after eight years as a camper; our other son will be going for his fourth year this summer. Sending them to Winnebago has probably been the best parenting decision that we have made. There are lots of reasons why this is the case. First of all, our kids have come back each summer with such personal growth At its core, Winnebago is about learning how to live in community with others. Our kids have needed to build different things in this regard, but Winnebago's staff have had the skills and training to help them both along this important life pathway. I can't say enough about the staff that are there--both the staff who are there every summer and those who are just seasonal. They are truly experts who have helped shape the developmental arc of our boys in such a positive direction. We have never had any safety concerns. Second, both of our boys are in regular touch with their friends from camp--I truly believe that these are lifelong friends that they have made there. Third, our two boys now have a shared experience that will forever be a point of connection for them. They will be much stronger friends with each other as a result. We have asked, only partly in jest, whether Winnebago has a year-round program. :) Thanks to the staff for all they have done and continue to do!

Camp Winnebago is a very special place and honestly a gift for your son(s). My two sons attended camp for 14 years combined and made life long friendships. Andy and his team foster amazing growth through activities at the lakefront, trips that get progressively more challenging each year (canoeing and hiking) and the overall culture where the younger kids look to the older kids for guidance. My younger son is approaching his final year this summer and every week there is talk of camp and making plans with his camp friends. Winnebago preserves traditional values and gives boys an opportunity to live screen free for 7 weeks which is rare in current times.

Winnebago holds a very special place in our family's hearts. It is the most special camp!!! My husband went to Winnebago and talked about it from the day I met him. It helped shape him into the kind, caring and wonderful person he is today. We now have the great fortune of sending our son to Winnebago and he LOVES it! The friendships he has made are ones that will last a lifetime. He gets together with these boys often and speaks to them many times during the week. Winnebago teaches these kids the value of teamwork and many life lessons. The owner and staff are incredible and I know our son is in great hands when he leaves for 7 weeks. Camp Winnebago is a special place. It is the best gift I have ever given to my child. This will be his 5th summer. Kids' unique talents and traits are celebrated and great effort is made by camp leadership to ensure each camper feels safe, connected, supported, challenged and accomplished. Campers and their families have a very personalized experience. Communication from the camp director and camp counselors is frequent and thoughtful. Parents' Weekend is great fun and fosters lasting connection between camper parents, many of which were former campers as well! This experience just isn't possible at a bigger camp. Camp director is nurturing, fair, and involved in every level of camp. He truly cares and knows the boys and families on a deep level. Large number of staff are former campers that are fun, professional, and doing most impressive things with their lives. Everyone at Winnebago loves camp! Camp physician is fantastic with many years of experience and lives on-site. Wilderness trips build each year as the boys learn more skills and confidence. The lake and trees are beautiful. Maine is truly the way life should be, especially if you are a boy at Camp Winnebago. I can't recommend highly enough.

My sons have created life-long friendships and developed a deep love of the outdoors and beautiful Maine. The character of a Winnebago camper is integrity, kindness, and a bit of adventure. The camp community is inclusive and safe. The camp leadership is value-minded and intentional in making sure that each camper has a rich experience.
