Illinois Fire Safety Alliance

Camp "I Am Me" is a free one-week overnight camp for children and teens who have survived burn injuries, run by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and hosted at YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Illinois. Campers do traditional and adapted activities - swimming, boating and water sports, archery, rock climbing, ropes courses, horseback riding, arts, crafts, music and campfires - alongside workshops built around the emotional and developmental needs of burn survivors. A health centre staffed 24 hours a day, plus licensed physical and occupational therapists and camp social workers, supports wound and scar care, mobility, and self-esteem and body-image concerns during the week. Lodging, meals, activities and bus or van transportation from points across Illinois are all provided at no cost to families, and a Leaders-in-Training track serves 18- to 20-year-olds.
