White Stag Monterey runs a youth leadership-development camp at Piney Creek Camp near Arroyo Seco, where participants learn eleven leadership competencies through outdoor activities and team challenges. It is a two-week summer program for youth from sixth grade through age 18, run by an all-volunteer nonprofit affiliated with Scouts BSA. The emphasis is on personal growth, teamwork and disconnecting from technology in a natural setting.

Both my son and daughter have been candidates for two years and my daughter for five years and now also staff for three years. This is their favorite part of the summer. Both enjoy the spirited singing, fun songs, much laughter, camaraderie, great food, wonderful memories, good friends, and most of all both show much higher confidence and love and respect for nature. I love hearing them sing and shout their hearts out. Both are more self-efficient when it comes to cooking, planning and packing for any pretty much any adventure, and of course working with others in a team and leadership capacity. Connie, Steve, Mark, Kim, and Tim…thank you for all you do!! We highly recommend White Stag.

I felt so nervous when they were away and kept wondering how they would look like after a week. It was just wonderful to see them marching to the ceremony and in great spirit. On the way back, two kids talked a lot, the food, the activities, the team members and the patrol leaders. My husband and I were listening to them but all smiling. Each every kid should have an opportunity to go white stag at least once. Highly recommended!
