Tamahay Camp for Girls is an overnight camp for girls ages 7-16 on Island Lake near Akeley, founded in 1969. Campers ride horses, canoe, sail, shoot archery, play tennis, fence, cook out and take overnight trips. The camp is deliberately technology-free, with no cellphones or tablets, and takes only 36 campers per session so staff know every camper by name. It runs four weeks each summer, and campers stay either two weeks or all four.
