Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America · Private
Camp Wilderness is a Scouting America (BSA) summer camp on a 2,400-acre property between Bad Axe and Mantrap Lakes in the Paul Bunyan State Forest near Park Rapids, run by the Northern Lights Council. Scouts attend week-long resident sessions to earn merit badges and use miles of trails, remote outpost sites, shooting ranges, a 40-foot climbing tower, a high ropes course and zipline, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats and fishing. The 2026 season runs five weeks from June 21 to July 25. The camp has operated since 1945 and is fully BSA-accredited; the same property hosts Butler Wilderness Outpost for Cub Scouts.

Was here for a Winter adventure. Cabins are pretty bare and sleep on small pads. Really open floor plan. Did have to do some cleaning upon arrival (for personal standards) which some may be able to overlook. One does have to pack their food, cooking utensils, and eating utensils...however it may be different in different cabins. The ranger is personable and I would think available if needed, but we really had come prepared as I was with someone who had been many years in a row. The sledding hills are much fun. There are tunes, sleds of different kinds. 2 different sledding hills. There are cross country skis which we did not try. There are supposedly groomed trails which I did not find. But we were able to go for a Winter hike which did get very cold. There are definitely more miles to explore than we did. This seems like a very rustic place that if you enjoy nature would be lovely to visit in the different seasons MN has to offer. Campfire rings, outhouses, and picnic tables in multiple different areas for convenience. There were no indoor showers in the cabin we stayed in, but did have 3 bathrooms. Kitchen on upper and lower floor. Again rustic, kind of off grid. But I did actually get decent cell service through my Verizon provider. 💁♀️
Such a wonderful place! Every scout should visit this excellent camp!
Great Scout Camp with really good staff and programs. Troop 82 Scouts had a great week.
Great place to camp as a Scout and as a family. Best experience is when you cook for yourselves but cafeteria style food service is available on most Scout events.
