Spirit In the Pines Camp
Private
Spirit in the Pines is a Lutheran camping ministry of St. Andrew Lutheran Church on Pleasant Lake in Hackensack, about an hour north of Brainerd. It runs nine weeks of youth camps plus family camps each summer, hosting up to 120 campers a week, with swimming, canoeing, gaga ball, carpetball, crafts, skits and campfire talks. The camp aligns with American Camp Association standards: staff pass background checks and are lifeguard and first-aid certified, and a CNA-certified camp nurse is on site for every youth session.

Great and friendly staff! Good was great and plenty to do with the kids
I think the camp seemed fun in general. My daughter begged me to go, what I agreed to since all the staff were personally amazing and I knew she would be safe. When I read the requirements I was thrilled camp seemed fun,I wish I was her age again!!! I read that girls only could wear one pieces and boys could wear whatever they wanted for a swim suit. This had me a little confused, as it doesn’t quite seem fair that girls couldn’t wear whatever they wanted yet guys could. Either way I didn’t complain as I knew they wouldn’t ever judge my daughter for wearing whatever. After sending her for a week she came home all happy, yet she told me mom I barley could wear any of the clothes I brought. I was quite confused as my daughter brought a couple of cute t shirts, that we bought for the week. My daughter told me that they told her that she couldn’t show any stomach. I asked her if it was only her and she said no but she said all the guys could. This made me very upset as this is pure reputation of inequality. Please SIP let girls be comfortable wear whatever so I can send my kiddo out there without having her complain about dress code!!!
This IS my HaPpY place; no matter the weather! There is ALWAYS fun, laughter, friends, good food, And so much more!
The staff is absolutely wonderful. They are so helpful. Jericho is the best cabin by far, it has so much personality and history. I loved the beautiful camp and waterfront. There was not a dull moment the entire time I was there! The food was amazing, the facilities were state of the art, and the chapel seemed to be brand new! I loved the experience and will definitely come back!
