I knew our son needed something different and more challenging than what we could offer at home over the summer. Frankly, I wanted him outdoors, away from screens, and doing things he'd never tried before. I’d never sent one of our kids away for more than two weeks, so I was definitely nervous. A friend recommended Camp Thunderbird—she’d gone as a child, and so had her kids. They were well-rounded, confident, thoughtful, and adventurous—the kind of qualities I hoped for my son. Michael, the camp director, was wonderful about meeting with us, answering our questions, and guiding us through the process. The weekly letters from camp counselors (which I wasn’t expecting) were a pleasant surprise. They captured my son’s experience so accurately—what he was thriving in, what he was learning, and how he was growing—it was clear they really knew him. That gave me real peace of mind. He came home more independent, confident, and with a brand-new passion for ceramics, which he’s continued here and even built a new community around. He’ll be heading back this summer, and we’re all excited to see what new adventures await.

This place is special. The community, the beauty of the environment, and the way the programs challenge the boys to grow are all part of the experience. If you are looking for a screen free summer experience in a place where your son will be active, outside, and happy there is no better option than Thunderbird. So many of my best memories are there as a camper and then counselor. The very best one, though was as a parent, seeing my oldest son (who was just out of 7th grade at the time) goofing off with his friends on the black rafts. Middle school can be so tough. Yet here he was so happy. With his friends at Thunderbird, he can just be himself.

Well Camp Thunderbird was my first place I worked, I was In maintenance depth cleaning bathrooms and shower houses pickup trash ect my Mom And Sister worked in Laundry I had lots of friends who worked their it was so fun Moe , Holly , were the owners at that time , When I wasn't working I hung out at the Horse barn riding the horses my mom had sold are donkey to camp his name was Benny he loved camp , If I didn't live so far I would have got my sons to work their it's a great place to work have fun and meet great people. I hear their beautiful daughter and husband run it now glad it's still family. Thanks from the 1980s

This is a beautiful rustic camp with great facilities and spectacular waterfront. The counselors, other staff and owner are especially attentive to, warm and friendly with and guiding the campers. Five star all the way!!
