I was a camper back in 1983. Long, long time ago - I didn’t know if you still existed. I have such amazing memories from that summer. Cabin 6 I think - we were a little mischievous but good girls. I love that you still exist. Loved the hiking trip. I remember the great friendships. I remember arriving being so scared I wouldn’t have any friends but leaving in tears because everyone became my sister at the end.

I have been going to Camp Thunderbird for four years, with this upcoming summer being my fifth. As soon as I get home from camp, I already start the countdown till next summer, to my second home. The first year I arrived at camp, I didn’t know anyone; however, I left with not only friendships that will last a lifetime, but also a better understanding of who I truly am. Every summer I return to a community that is supportive of everyone, and filled with people who want and care about your success. Camp Thunderbird has given me opportunities to meet new people from around the world, learn new skills, and be more self-reliant. When I was younger at camp, I enjoyed activities like waterskiing and blacksmithing, always making unique crafts and jewelry to show to my friends and family back home. Now, as an older camper, I have had the chance to take week long expeditions where my peers and I learn how to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty in nature that surrounds us. Camp Thunderbird provides teenagers the opportunity to backpack and explore new regions of the US, places and views I wouldn’t have known existed otherwise. Camp Thunderbird has shown me what it means to be a good person and how to thrive in life. The people at Camp Thunderbird are the kindest people a person could meet and my summers spent in MN at camp are my favorite memories. Anyone who has experienced a summer at Tbird comes home a better, honest, and a more open-minded person. I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience Camp Thunderbird, and I can’t wait to send my family there in the future.

My daughter has been going here for years and this is her favorite place in the world. The minute she leaves camp, she counts down to when she can return. There is something special about Camp Thunderbird where my daughter feels she can be her true self. Not only has she made life-long friends, she has learned skills that she would have never learned at home. She is an independent woman now who can take care of herself, live in the woods, take care and respect the environment and yet be silly and dance like a young 15 year old should be doing. I will forever love this camp for giving her the best times and memories!
