Sail Sand Point is a nonprofit community boating center on Lake Washington at Magnuson Park in Seattle, running summer camps where kids sail, paddle and play on the water. Learn-to-sail camps are grouped for ages 8-12 (Jr. Explorers, Youth Beginner, Intermediate, Doublehand and Youth Racing) and 12-17 (Adventure Camp, Teen Beginner and Intermediate, Laser, SB3 and J24 keelboat sailing, Performance Sailing and Teen Racing), with a two-day Mommy/Daddy & Me option for ages 5-8 for families not ready to commit to a full week. Every camp is taught by a US Sailing Level 1 certified instructor, and a first-day water comfort check and capsize drill are required, though campers need only be comfortable in a life jacket rather than strong swimmers. Sail Sand Point offers 50% and 100% scholarships on all camps and classes.
