Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation is a nonprofit community sailing program at Westpoint Harbor in Redwood City that teaches kids to sail on San Francisco Bay in Cubes, Optimists, dinghies and keelboats, with wing-foil and Waszp foiling clinics for teens. Summer classes run Monday through Thursday, roughly 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 or 3:30 p.m., as four-day camps or two-week sessions; three entry points sort newcomers by age, with Guppies for 6-7 year olds, Learn to Sail for 8-11 and Adventure Sailing for 12-18. Boats and safety boats are provided at introductory levels, class sizes are capped between 4 and 12 sailors, and a racing pathway leads to Opti, Feva, 420 and high-performance teams that travel to regattas. PYSF is a 501(c)(3) that offers scholarships so sailing is taught regardless of ability to pay, and encourages older sailors to intern as junior instructors.
