San Diego Yacht Club's junior program runs a large summer sailing school on San Diego Bay for ages 6 to 18, from first-time Sea Urchins sailing a 14-foot dinghy with an instructor through Sabot, CFJ, C420, Laser and 29er race teams. Classes meet Monday-Friday in half-day blocks (8:30am-12:00pm mornings, 1:00-4:30pm afternoons), mostly in two-week sessions from June through late July; every sailor passes a swim test on day one and wears a life jacket on the water. Club boats are included with beginner Sabot classes, and non-members may enroll once open registration opens in mid-March. Tuesday family-night dinners and a full regatta calendar, including the Dutch Shoe Marathon, run through the summer.
