Powered by GoogleI gave up my membership after 18 months. The activity pool was always closed. When using the lap pool, you had to deal with creepy men staring at you. Why force me to pay when I could never use the facilities, as the aqua classes were always pre-booked? It is so unfair to allow the same people to fill these classes. I have always had positive experiences with the front desk staff except for maybe once. It would be nice if there were staff on hand to enforce the rules. During the times I was fortunate to swim, teens and men would wear sweaty clothing and put their bodies in the pool, hot tub, or sauna. The teenage girls are always recording in the locker room. At times, I tried working with a swim coach but stopped because she was weird and confrontational. It appears that those of us paying full price are being neglected, while large families receive huge discounts. I remain hopeful that things will improve, and I appreciate the presence of the police officers, as they help prevent many negative events. Anyone complaining about the police presence likely has personal issues with law enforcement, but please don't speak for us all.
They need to do frequent maintenance checks on the machines. I had a hard time using a machine because of rust buildup and it was the only one they have. Also, although we wipe down the equipment, they should dust the other parts that we do not use (i.e. the bottom legs).
I’ve been a member for a month, as a senior citizen. Their e gym is awesome. Friendly & helpful staff walked me through the assessment part of this process to get started. I’ve taken several yoga and silver sneakers classes which have been taught by engaged knowledgeable instructors. Overall I find this Y clean and maintained. An improvement would be to add another yoga class each day or evening.
The new YMCA, has the open area concept, it's ok. I prefer Schererville location. The new Hammond Y, seems always overcrowded. Elevator down, quite often. I guess people like NEW, I prefer less congestion. Great place to work out. Staff always courteous and helpful.
I been going to the YMCA in Schererville but wanted to give this place a try finally. Soooooo nice, the updated equipment is amazing. Yes it gets picked but doesn't feel that crowded because they have so many machines and duplicates of different stuff. I like the turf area and then the recovery room also. Their pool area is really nice, I can see that it might get overwhelming with all the kids but i did go during summer break. Their lockers have the best lighting, and super clean. It's been open for almost a year I think so glad they are keeping it clean. I need to check out what other stuff they have.
