From sitting around the campfire, singing songs and eating s'mores, to being able to choose from one of three afternoon activities, sometimes including canoeing across the lake, exploring the local hillsides for garnets, playing badminton, or doing arts and crafts, camp. Susan Curtis gives children from low-income families a chance to experience sleep away camp which would otherwise be far beyond their reach. This experience of living in community with strangers, making friends, experiencing the outdoors, eating unfamiliar foods and following a routine which has both structure and built-in freedom, is an experience that changes people. Being able to get up close to some of the most unspoiled beauty on the planet in a way that normally only the privileged few can, opens these children's eyes to the possibilities the world might offer them.
