Slovenski camps is absolutely amazing!!! I started at Slovenski Camps in 2022. I had never been to overnight camp before and didn’t know anyone there. I had no idea that Slovenski would become my home away from home. I was a camper for 3 years and a counselor in training for 1 year. I have countless happy memories of camp. I made lifelong friends and genuinely looked forward to going to camp all year long. If you/your kid are nervous about taking the leap I would 100% urge you to go for it! You won’t regret it.

I started going to Slovenski when I was 11 years old. I loved making fairy houses, playing scatter ball, and most of all, sailing. Each year I returned to camp, I learned more and more about sailboat terminology and strategic boat mechanics, including parts of sail. The sailing counselors support helped me gain confidence in myself, ultimately allowing me to advance and become a varsity sailor for my school. With the exposure camp gave me to different types of sailboats, I was able to determine I wanted to specialize in vanguard sailing. Now, I’m beyond excited to help give back to camp by mentoring new sailors. There is something truly special about watching kids explore a new opportunity, gaining memories and friendships along the way. Much thanks to the Slovenski family for all they do.

Camp Slovenski is an absolute gem. Our son has now attended 3 weeks of camp there for 3 straight summers at ages 10, 11, and 12. He has had a blast every summer, and as parents we couldn’t be happier with the experience. The camp is run by an amazing and warm family of educators and coaches, and we love that the camp is guided by liberal arts principles. Music and the arts are incorporated along with sports, there’s live music every night at a campfire, and kids can earn cabin points for memorizing and reciting poems. There are no screens except for occasional all-camp movies when it rains, and they talk about the importance of character and leadership. We love that the camp allots some time for unstructured play and traditional games like dodgeball and camp-wide “manhunt.” Our son has also loved the opportunity to learn to sail. The counselors have all been great, with many who attended as campers, and they all seem like smart and interesting young people. We also give tremendous credit to the nurses and administrative team; our son has numerous medications including two asthma inhalers and an EpiPen, and they were so kind and competent about all of his care and even accommodated his dosing schedule for oral immunotherapy. The food is also well done and appeals to kids, with lots of opportunities for individual choice, so we felt he was in very good hands. Finally, Slovenski offers amazing value for the money. All in all, we just love it. It’s kind of an idyllic place out of a simpler time before phones and laptops, when kids played outside all summer and loved it. It’s a traditional Maine camp experience, and we are grateful our son has found such a lovely place to learn, grow, and make memories.

Our kids love Camp Slovenski. They’ve been going since 2022 and count down the days every summer. It feels like the original Parent Trap—the good kind of camp where kids actually swim, play manhunt, and run around doing the same slightly feral things we did growing up. What we love most is that the camp embraces all kids and puts a real emphasis on character (yes, even push-ups for slamming cabin doors 😄). There’s no floof here—just fresh air, friendships, and learning how to be a decent human. We also always felt our kids were very safe there. Any behavior issues were handled swiftly and appropriately, and the Slovenskis have a true zero-tolerance policy for bullying and bad behavior—which we absolutely love. Bonus points for being device-free. Happy kids, tired kids, and stories for days (singing and campfires, who’s cabin won what, man-hunt, we could go on!) when they come home. We couldn’t recommend it more.

I started going to Slovenski Camps in middle school for the Athena girls camp and after just one week I was hooked. I went for 3 years as a camper and for many more as a counselor. Camp has always been my favorite part of the year and I found myself looking forward to the next year from the second I left. The Slovenski family is great, they’re very hardworking and have an awesome array of unique and incredible games for camp. There are many styles of dodgeball, arts and crafts, fun games in the woods, water activities/sports, and other options, making it suitable and fun for any kid. The counselors are all very caring and clearly love their jobs, all of my counselors growing up were role models for me and were always very aware of all the dynamics in their cabins and with the kids. The administration is also great, the older counselors and members of the Slovenski family have great communication and want what’s best for every kid and family. Their love for camp is clear and they organize great activities along with always running the camp smoothly. Their old school style makes Slovenski an even more unique place, not having phones for your time at camp always proved to be incredibly refreshing. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this place more as it has become a key part of my identity and shaping who I’ve become as a person over the last 7 years.
