Camp Rockmont For Boys

Our son attended Camp Rockmont’s 6-day introductory session and had an excellent experience. He made friends, gained confidence, and was excited to return the following summer for a two-week session. Unfortunately, the second summer was a very different experience. When we raised concerns during his stay, they were largely dismissed by both the camp director and general manager as we were assured he was doing well. We later learned he and a cabin friend had been experiencing bullying and inadequate supervision within his cabin with one of the cabin counselors being removed within days of his arrival. At pickup, he was emotionally exhausted, had lost weight, and begged to leave immediately. The confidence and enthusiasm he gained during his first summer were largely undone by his second. We also noticed a significant difference in the camp culture following the ownership change. While we cannot know the reasons, the camp felt less focused on the individual child and more focused on growth and expansion. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience has stayed with our family for years and felt worth sharing. Camp Rockmont was wonderful for our son the first year, but failed him the second.

A Hidden Gem in the Blue Ridge Mountains This was my fourth year bringing the kids to Camp Rockmont for our annual Y Guides weekend, and honestly, it never gets old. If you’re looking for a place that’ll make you forget about the daily grind, this is it. The setting alone is worth the trip – Lake Eden nestled right in the heart of the Black Mountain is absolutely breathtaking. I’ve been to my fair share of camps over the years, but nothing holds a candle to waking up to those mountain views reflecting off the water. The kids are in their element here. The Blob and Gullywasher have become legendary in our family. My oldest still talks about last year’s epic dad’s contest – watching the dads attempt the blob contest is entertainment gold. Equal parts hilarious and impressive (mostly hilarious). The shooting range (BBs and .22s) is well-run and safe, giving the kids that taste of adventure they’re always craving. Camp food can be hit or miss anywhere, but Rockmont does a solid job keeping everyone fed and happy. There’s something magical about sharing meals right by the lake. Saturday night’s campfire ceremony is pure magic. It’s one of those traditions that reminds you why these weekends matter so much. Cant wait to go back.

The best of the best! Our ten year old just got back from his second summer at Rockmont and we’re all-in! Awesome programming, beautiful grounds, friendly and professional staff, world-class waterfront and more! It’s amazing to know that our son (and hopefully youngest in a few years as well) is growing and thriving, and building his own story at such an incredible place.
