Kanuga is such a special place. My Wife and I were married here earlier this spring, and all the big and small details were met with care. Laura and her team made sure that our big day went by seamlessly. From thorough prep calls that helped us cover all of our bases to included catering and rentals, Kanuga went above and beyond to make sure that our wedding was incredibly special and worry free. We are so grateful for all that Kanuga has done for us, and would highly recommend any prospective couples consider hosting your big weekend here!

Kanuga Retreat Center is a beautiful and peaceful place to rest, reflect, and reconnect with nature and your spirit. The grounds are stunning, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are kind and attentive. Whether you’re attending a retreat (Soultending with Mary Magdalene is highly recommended!), walking the trails, or simply enjoying the quiet mountain setting, it’s a truly special experience. Highly recommend!

I rarely leave reviews on anything but we stayed at this hotel/lodge for two nights over the New Year holiday because this was supposed to be our Christmas present and we had a very disappointing experience. I was overcharged by almost $600! which is completely unacceptable. I called three separate times to get this resolved. Each time, I received no real help, and I was refused the opportunity to speak with management. The staff was unprofessional and dismissive, and no effort was made to explain or correct the charges. Being overcharged by this amount and then ignored afterward shows a serious lack of accountability and customer service. I would not recommend staying here, especially if you expect transparent billing or professional handling of issues.

This place is absolutely horrible. Our family stayed here for Christmas and I was hesitant because there is a vegetarian and a vegan in my family, and Kanuga ensured us that there would be plenty of food options. When we would ask for a vegetarian/vegan option at meals, we were either rudely ignored or they food provided was actually insulting. I have added photos to show the options provided - 1. Uncooked tofu in a bowl of marinara sauce. 2. Unseasoned burnt tempeh. 3. Black bean burger drier than the Sahara desert. Even when we kindly tried to talk to management, they were dismissive… when they were the ones who advertised the options. We had to drive into town on Christmas Eve just to get some decent food that we could eat. Safe to say we will never be returning over Christmas.

Kanuga is a place we visited as kids in its heyday and we returned 15 years later for a reunion. It’s very clear it’s underfunded and understaffed as we had no housekeeping and there were crumbs and wrappers in our cottage upon arrival. Many of the buildings are in dire need of painting and servicing. The baker building for children had been condemned and is no longer operational. The food was surprisingly well balanced and a nice selection and the kitchen staff were super friendly. Check-in was very slow and the staff seemed like they didn’t have experience with it. Cottage needed much maintenance (lights and bulbs missing, painting, broken windows, cobwebs, hot water taps needing servicing etc etc). Additionally the cabins are very rudimentary so ask for extra bedding at the front desk which they will happily provide. We on the overall had a nice experience but were saddened by the decay and under maintenance of the grounds and services.
