Traditional overnight summer camp for girls ages 6-17 in the Blue Ridge Mountains at Zirconia, founded 1945 and run by the Bell family (sister camp to Camp Mondamin). The non-competitive, non-regimented program emphasizes camper choice across horseback riding, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing and nature, plus arts, drama, music and dance. Sessions run 3 weeks in June, 5 weeks in July and 2 weeks in August.

And, as an only child, living in a bunk house with other girls and learning responsibilities and cooperation, was such a growth opportunity for her. My favorite aspect of Green Cove that sets it apart from other camps is the individual goal setting as opposed to a competition based camp. This summer she challenged herself to conquer skills that weren’t her favorite, and she came home knowing all four swim strokes and mountain biking. I also love the weekly letter updates from her counselor that lets us know how and what she is doing around camp. She will definitely be going back next year!
