I’m sure the camp is a great place for the kids and that the workers put forth incredible efforts into making sure those kids are enriched to their fullest capabilities, but the actions of those kids’ parents/guardians coming and going from the park through the connecting neighborhood is totally unacceptable. This summer, new measures were put in place to try and mitigate the reckless driving of the parents/guardians and that has not worked one bit. As a resident of that neighborhood, and one who bikes and walks their dog through there, I experience DAILY people coming and going from the camp blowing the stop signs and flying over the speed bumps. On a couple occasions I have had to jump off of my bike or pull my dog away so we don’t get hit. I also see kids who live in the neighborhood and presumably attend the camp themselves have to move out of the way of these cars. The camp representatives seem to want to do nothing and scoff it off like it’s not their problem. At this point unfortunately it’s a matter of WHEN not IF a preventable accident occurs. The lack of actual action (to this point) by the camp’s representatives is pretty telling about how they feel about the safety of those residents who have to deal with this every summer.
I’ve gone to the camp for 7-8 years now and it’s always been a blast. The counselors are always kind and prioritize safety. Love every year I go!
Love Arrowhead and the great selection of events the YMCA puts on at this location. The summer camps are great but the other offerings here are worth checking out. The many trails also connect to Powder Mills and allow for hours of hiking fun all year long.
Great place to take the kids! During hero dress up, my son was really excited to wear his Ninja outfit...at least the night before. The next day he was terrified to put it on. We realized he was afraid he might be the only one wearing a costume. I told him to if he put it on and no one was wearing costumes when we got there, he could take it off. Two of the counselors were wearing full body Buzz Lightyear and Green Lantern costume. He was thrilled and I started tearing up a bit! That's the kind of camps this is!
