The Visser Family YMCA in Grandville hosts one of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids' branch-based summer day camps, running Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for children ages 5-12 who have completed young fives or kindergarten. Ten themed weeks run June 8 through August 14, mixing songs, arts and crafts, character development, team building, sports, fine arts, reading, science and swimming; the Y provides morning and afternoon snacks and campers bring a peanut-free lunch. Camps are licensed by the State of Michigan, run a 1:10 counselor-to-camper ratio and include no screen time, and a Y membership is not required. Weekly rates at this branch are $250 for members and $300 for non-members, and financial assistance is available to families who qualify.

We had a nice time today in the family pool with our 7 year old. The pool was nice and warm. It’s also the perfect depth for him to get some swim practice in. Not too busy on a Sunday morning.

I've been a member of the Y for several years and have truly appreciated the opportunity to connect with the community and regular attendees. The majority of the staff members are friendly and a delight to interact with. Regrettably, after about 9 years, I'm considering discontinuing my membership due to several concerns. I'm puzzled as to why a "traffic tracker" feature is not available onnthe app or website. Not only is the updated app subpar, to the extent that managing your account requires a phone call to speak with a representative, but not being able to see the facility's busyness before going is a significant inconvenience for individuals with limited time. On numerous occasions, I've arrived to work out only to find the facility too crowded, to the pointI just end up leaving. Considering the cost of membership, you'd think a "traffic tracker" feature would be a relatively straightforward amenity to offer members. Furthermore, I've observed that the steam room and hot tubs are not consistently maintained to an appropriate standard. While my membership fees have increased prettyfrequently, it seems that basic updates to their application and improved maintenance of their equipment and amenities should be a more pressing priority. Finally, gym etiquette is not enforced, which is frustrating.

I’ve been a YMCA member for nearly 20 years and have always valued what the organization stands for. My daughter and I recently moved back to the Ottawa County area and joined the Visser YMCA specifically to use the aquatic center while we train daily for upcoming triathlons. Unfortunately, after only a few months back, I’m very disappointed in the overall condition of the facility — particularly the pool area. The aquatic center is consistently dirty and poorly monitored. I regularly see people walking on the pool deck in muddy outdoor shoes and boots. I’ve personally watched glass being brought onto the deck and reported it to lifeguards, with no action taken. The pool is now closed for two weeks because glass was broken in it — something that appears preventable. In addition: • Children frequently play in designated lap lanes while adults wait to swim. • The pool has been closed multiple times this month for “maintenance issues.” • The front entrance doors are visibly filthy, with smeared handprints that have remained for weeks. • There is noticeable dust buildup around the air vents. • Staff are often gathered behind the desk chatting while these issues persist. At $130 per month for a single membership, it’s frustrating to pay a premium rate and be unable to use a primary part of the facility due to poor oversight and cleanliness. I genuinely hope improvements are made. I’ve always enjoyed being part of the YMCA community and would prefer to stay — but if conditions don’t change, I may have to consider other options.

Been back in the gym for the past 12 months.I have lost 150 pounds. And almost back to my service weight. Look I am gonna be truthful here. The Men and Woman that are regulars here are among the most positive uplifting people i have ever meet in my life. At a time were I needed some serious positive motivation they helped selflessly. I can only wish now as I get better and better that I can also hold that torch and pay it forward.. To all those that frequent the Visser Y thank you for the past year support it has made the journey to reclaim my life and my health bearable and kept me going. To the employees Thank You for keeping the gym a place, clean comfortable and that is a valuable part of the community though i know its not easy you are very much appreciated even taking the time to listening to my Life's tales those that know me there know what I am saying . To anyone looking at joining you will be handled with respect and dignity the staff is top notch and the cost is immeasurable compared to what you receive in benifits if you just apply yourself. AGAIN THANK YOU AND HERE IS TO ANOTHER YEAR.
