Trackers Earth runs day and overnight summer camps for grades K-12 in the Seattle/Kirkland area, teaching wilderness survival, archery, fishing, foraging, boating, hiking, paddling and climbing, along with themed adventures built around ninjas, wizards, secret agents and role-playing games. The organization has led outdoor and craft education since 2004 and screens instructors through interviews and background checks. Online registration stays open until 6pm the Sunday before a camp starts, space permitting.

★★Dave KreiderI withdrew my 6 year old son the morning of day 3 after learning about the day’s exciting game “sentry” where an adult counselor arms a child with a compound bow, blindfolds them, and then directs them to target and shoot at other children who are hiding in the woods. I spoke with four onsite adult counselors, none of who took issue with adults ordering children to target other children with a weapon. After escalating to corporate the Director of Administration Timothy Kinman informed me that for over 20 years it’s been the policy of Trackers that children may use weapons against other children as long as there are no head shots. Our household supports responsible weapon use and ownership. Normalizing the act of aiming any weapon other people is unconscionable. This camp needs to seriously reconsider what is defined as a “tracker skill” and how to distinguish that from training children to act out on the darkest realities we now face in American schools. Feedback indicates the camp may have elected for an alternative activity after my protest, but no guarantee of modifying their program in the future. My camp fees were refunded in full.
★★★★★MaggieWe LOVED the summer camp! It was everything I hoped it would be for my 5 and 7 year old girls. They came home dirty and tired in the best way every day. They took a bus to a nature area each day and spent the full day doing activities in the woods with their fun and capable guides. Like a mini backpacking trip every day for little kids! On a long hike with me they would have complained - but not with their fun guides who do all sorts of cool activities each day. One day they came home talking all about lillipads and how they got to touch one and saw tadpoles. Their sense of responsibility for their “kit” (backpack with what they needed for the day) also made them feel very official!
