Can't say enough good things about Heartwood! Our family has been involved with Heartwood programs since 2021, when we enrolled our kindergartener in their preschool on asynchronous school days. From break camps and summer camps, we value Heartwood's focus on true time in nature and focus on child-lead creativity.

Our family is heading into our 10th year of summer camp with Heartwood, and we can’t say enough good things about it. What began as a place my kids loved attending has grown into something even more meaningful, my older kids now come back as counselors! The staff create a safe, fun, and supportive environment where kids build confidence, responsibility, and a genuine love for the outdoors. We have been part of Heartwood Nature Programs since 2020, and we absolutely love it. During COVID and school closures, these nature programs truly supported my children’s mental health by giving them much-needed time outdoors, a sense of community, and meaningful learning experiences. Since then, my children have attended multiple Summer and Winter Camps and have loved every single one. The instructors are consistently kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in the kids. Whenever I’ve needed to communicate with the registrar, the process has always been easy and efficient. My oldest daughter loves Heartwood so much that after aging out as a camper, she transitioned into the trainee program—along with a close group of eight friends who all felt the same way and are now part of the magic themselves. I highly recommend Heartwood Nature Programs to anyone looking for a fun, enriching outdoor program for their children.

Heartwood has enriched my children's lives so much. Both of my kids have attended many of Heartwood's programs over the years, and my daughter has served as a CIT the past couple of summers. I signed my daughter up for the Heartwood Nature Program with high hopes, but unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. On the very first day of forest school, my daughter became seriously ill with influenza and ended up being sick for over a month. Knowing she wouldn’t be able to participate, my wife reached out to the program owner multiple times over several weeks requesting a refund. We had been in touch with the teacher, Kristen, who was kind, responsive, and understanding. She assured us that she would follow up with the registrar and that someone would get back to us. However, after weeks of silence, we finally received a curt and dismissive email saying, “we won’t be able to refund the money, bye.” Not only was the tone shockingly unprofessional, but there was also zero empathy shown for our daughter’s health. When my wife replied to that email, the owner suddenly offered to postpone the class — something that could’ve easily been discussed earlier — and then, insultingly, suggested we apply for a low-income scholarship program. Wanting a refund for a class our child couldn’t attend due to medical reasons does not make us low-income, it makes us reasonable. The lack of communication, compassion, and professionalism from the leadership at Heartwood was very upsetting. Kristen was the only one who showed any sense of care — unfortunately, the rest of the experience overshadowed that. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone who values responsiveness or basic decency.
