I am writing to share my experience regarding the abrupt removal of my grandson from Salem YMCA preschool, which has raised significant concerns about the safety and professionalism of this program. Unprofessional Conduct by Staff Recently, my grandson was removed from the preschool after he reacted negatively to a teacher putting her hands on him. Instead of addressing the situation with care and understanding, the director attempted to shut down my son and spouse when they tried to advocate for their 4 year old child. Shockingly, she walked out of the room while they were trying to have a constructive conversation about their concerns. This lack of professionalism not only reflects poorly on the leadership but also leaves parents feeling dismissed and unsupported. Safety Concerns Additionally, I have serious concerns regarding the supervision of children in this program. On several occasions, it was observed that teachers, after walking toddlers to the local park, were distracted by their cell phones and not actively watching the children. This negligence poses a significant risk to the safety of the kids in their care. There have also been alarming incidents where children have wandered off from both the classroom and the pool area due to a lack of proper supervision. This is unacceptable for any educational institution, particularly one entrusted with the care of young children. Conclusion Given these experiences, I cannot recommend this program to other parents who are seeking a safe and nurturing environment for their children. It is crucial for preschool programs to prioritize both the emotional and physical well-being of their students and to maintain open lines of communication with parents. The center has been recently found with many “NON Compliances” due to recent investigations! This is all public knowledge.

The worst gym/business in Salem. Staff lied to me saying they were a supervisor and gave me attitude after charging me an extra month. I was charged AGAIN TODAY for another month when I've canceled months ago. Disgusting cleaning in locker rooms was horrible. Staff is unprofessional.

The cleaning staff do a great job, the programming is varied, the pool is good for exercise year-round, the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful, there is a great selection of equipment, the yoga instructors are very knowledgeable, and the hours are expansive. Being at your location today for the first time this year, I was very disappointed to find that there was no green-cone lane in the pool for public/ Not even one line was left available for open swim. That’s unreasonable. There should always be at least one lane designated for open swim at all times. The current setup makes no sense, and it feels unfair to members who come expecting regular access. This needs to be addressed and made a rule moving forward.
