Art School 99 is a small art school at 86 Joy Street in Somerville led by artist Alexandra Rozenman, teaching drawing, painting and collage. Kids and teens can take ceramics and mixed-media classes at beginner through advanced levels, and adult and couples classes are also offered, with sessions held in Somerville and nearby communities. Its published offerings are ongoing classes rather than a summer camp.

Classes are not overwhelmingly large, so you don’t feel like you get lost. Instead, there is lots of personalized teaching based on the types of projects you want to do mixed in with important instruction. Alexandra is extremely knowledgeable about art and it shows through in her work with students. I will continue taking classes as long as I can and would highly recommend taking a course (or a few!) to anyone wanting to improve their art.
