The Saleeby Family YMCA in the Sandhills runs a traditional summer day camp for children ages 5-11, with weekday hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from early June through early August. Campers are grouped in small clusters with counselors and swim twice a week, and a Counselor-in-Training program is offered for teens ages 13-15. It is a branch of the YMCA of the Sandhills.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Saleeby Family YMCA directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.

Powered by GoogleThis YMCA is the dirtiest one that I have ever been to and the machines frequently break down. Do NOT enroll your child in the summer camp. Last year, you could hear the staff yelling at the children in the parking lot. They also overcharge for camp when they do not serve any food. They do not properly supervise children according to what I was told. They do not use buddy systems for field trips which is an accountabilility issue. They also refuse to accommodate children with any medical needs or special needs. My daughter is not a safety issue and they have made an assumption about Autistic children. I requested a buddy system because a buddy system is highly recommended and should be done in the first place on field trips. They have a ratio of 1:19. They will unilaterally remove your child from enrollment without having a conversation about possible accommodations. Then say that you never should have asked for an accommodation and your child could have been in summer camp. That is discrimination!!! That is a violation of the ADA. They are not inclusive. This is by far the worst YMCA that I have been to and I have been to the YMCA in multiple states. I now have to explain to my 7 year old little girl why she cannot attend summer camp with her friends. What does this teach her about having Autism? Edited to add: Also, after posting this review they canceled my entire YMCA membership in retaliation.
It's sad that I wish there was somewhere else I could send my kid to swim class. The online system is absolutely awful and one older female staff member in particular is practically always rude. Often times it can be challenging to sign-up for a class. You have to navigate a minefield of errors, confusing redirects, and greyed out payment buttons. Last time I signed up for a swim class they had double-booked the instructor and had to cancel my child's class. They said sorry, refunded, and tried to get him in another class. I appreciated that but it would have been nice to be prioritized somehow for this next session, or at the very least treated with civility. Now it's time for the next session of swim class. I navigate the mess of online registration but it's unclear if I've been successful. I called to verify his registration. The rude staff member curtly told me that I needed to come in to pay and put me on hold in a sarcastic voice. She didn't seem to listen to my question. I remained on hold through two more check-ins by other staff members. I repeated my questions, please can you confirm registration, no one helped me. Eventually I just kept beating on the registration system in various ways until I got it to work. I don't fault staff for the crappy registration system but can't you offer some assistance or at least commiserate? Why have a online registration system if you're going to say I have to appear in person? Some of us have jobs. That same rude staff member was a sub for a previous swim class. It happened to my my child's very first class. She yelled at me and interacted with my child in an insensitive manner. There are some great people there and I really appreciate the mission of the Y. It's disappointing that I have had enough poor experiences that I am compelled to write this review. Management, please look into your online portal and staff training.
Terminated my son access to the daycare without an appeal process or due process. They have strict guidelines and policies that is not communicated effectively with their employees or customers.
Machines are always broken and they are always “ordering the parts”. Recently brought membership prices up I’d like to see that money used to fix the constantly broken machines. I’ve been a y member for years and this is my third year at this location but I think it might be time to move on. Nothing is improving and I’ve only held on this long because of the location and pool. Don’t judge the ymca solely on this location this one is particularly horrible
I am writing this just after this branch opened, so hopefully they can work out issues with time. The front lobby is lovely- a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee. I’m not picky but the workout/locker room/ pool were nice and enough to keep me busy. I had a positive experience with the staff overall. The main issue was the childcare. They would have over ten kids running around with the only staff person unable to watch because they were signing in kids. They constantly were having issues with capacity, so they began showing movies, but they wouldn’t ask my permission before putting a movie on for my son that I wasn’t comfortable with. They also could use more varied classes and times. Overall it was good and hopefully they will be able to fix some of these issues over the next several months.
