I travel to various states and get a chance to visit the YMCA in those states. This particular YMCA (Parkwood) could use improving in the following areas: The Staff and patrons don't seem as friendly, as I have been going here for several weeks and haven't been much spoken to. Jordan, a Staff member, has been attentive, and was friendly in speaking with me and seemed genuinely kind. I have chosen not to use the weights here, as they look like they came from somewhere 30 years ago, and not made real solid. I haven't experienced the pool, as it seems to be abundantly used by a number of women, which is proper of course. However, the dressing/locker rooms look like pictures from Schindler's List of the naked women...except here, they don't bother to even cover private parts. I could NEVER think of bringing my Grandchildren here...I would blush from shame. There are towels and wraps that ladies could purchase to not be so open to showing their stuff. I DON'T want to SEE their privates. Please, have some decency. It doesn't help that the showers are an open space (like some Team Gym or the Military). YMCA should be promoting decency (not allowing it to be so EXPOSED), by having better locker rooms for women. VENTILATION is sorely lacking in the shower areas/bathrooms. I don't know who designed this YMCA, but it seems so 'separated', not cohesive. It's not my favorite place, and I have found that I seem to only come here to do the minimum. It takes more energy to stay.

Theresa, was incredibly confrontational and rude, literally had just walked into the pool area with my little brother and sat down, we were trying to make sure his mask and flippers fit because we’re going to florida next week, and she stormed up to us and said “YOU can wear that, HE cannot. We do NOT allow that here.” My dad politely tried to explain that we were literally just trying to check to make sure the mask didn’t leak and that his flippers fit his feet, she cut him off before he could barely get a word in, saying she runs the place and she does not allow that here. I’m not trying to say that she had to make an exception I don’t mind that at all, it was her approach to it that made the whole situation incredibly uncomfortable. We will never come back. Idk what kind of power trip she was on but yikes.

I like the staff, the clientele is respectful, and the pool is great. Seemingly great for kids too. But I miss the newer equipment and attention to room details they had at the--now closed--downtown YMCA. The strength training room itself, and much of the equipment in it, seems like it's an afterthought at this particular Y. This one could be great if given the attention the downtown Y received.

The preschool here is amazing. It is run like a school, not a daycare. The teachers are great and care a lot about the kids. They focus on getting the kids outside as much as the weather allows them to. My child has grown so much at the preschool and also at swimming lessons. The prices are also very affordable for both preschool and swimming lessons. I highly recommend the programs here!

Honest review of Parkwood YMCA: My husband and I became members in March of 2019 and just recently canceled our membership in June of 2019. Overall we had a good experience here. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked how they offer many different exercise classes. We tried both yoga and spin classes for a month and really enjoyed them. Our instructors were fantastic. My two suggestions for improvement would be more attention to cleanliness of the locker rooms/showers and more ventilation in the weight room in particular. I know this a busy gym, and its not going to smell like roses, but there were several times the weight room and surrounding halls smelled so terrible, we had to leave. (Like sewage back-up terrible.) I also understand that the locker room gets a lot of foot traffic, but the floors and lockers were always littered with gobs of hair and debris. Ultimately, we left because of the cost. $80 a month is a lot of money for us right now, and we also had to pay extra fees for the classes, which were not included with the membership. Considering we only used the cardio and weight room and no other services, it was not worth the cost for us. We decided we could still get a quality workout at home for free and canceled our membership.
