Johansen Olympia Dance Center, home of Ballet Northwest, runs themed creative dance camps for ages 4-10 in which dancers do theme-based movement, storytelling, crafts, and snack time, closing the week with an in-studio performance that is recorded and sent to families. Camps run Monday-Friday 9am-11:30am at $175 including a $50 deposit and snacks; 2026 themes include Princess & Prince, Frozen, and Encanto. No previous dance experience is necessary and dancers are split into two classes by age. The studio also partners with Fuzi Dance Etc. on a two-week Musical Theatre camp for kids going into 3rd through 9th grades, running Monday-Friday 9am-noon for $450.

Excellent dance studio for all ages! My daughter loves her teachers and the recital is great.

Johansen has been a great place for our daughter to grow! We’ve loved building community there and hope to continue for years to come. Would give ten stars if I could!

Johansen Olympia Dance is absolutely amazing! The instructors are so talented and encouraging, and the whole studio feels like a second family. The choreography is always creative and fun, and the dancers are incredibly passionate and skilled. Whether you’re just starting out or have been dancing for years, this place brings out the best in everyone. Highly recommend!

Our daughter has been dancing with Johansen's dance in Olympia for 2 years. She began as a 5th grader and was older than many at her level. We were concerned that might be a challenge for her self esteem. The instructors and owners were kind and welcoming always and gave her encouragement along the way. She has found so much joy in dance and we are grateful! We have found the studio to be body positive, provide ample opportunity to grow, be challenged and have fun. This studio has a rich history in our downtown and after experiencing it for the last 2 years it's easy to see why this gem is beloved.

This is Not a ballroom-style dance school. It is family-oriented, and they specialize in ballet. Child friendly, and a great place for children to learn ballet.
