As a Nationwide member and avid lap-swimmer visiting the Charlotte area, I tried Keith YMCA. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. I was impressed with the appearance of the facility, but when I went to swim laps in an empty indoor pool, the lifeguard explained that they break from the hour until quarter past because they only have one lifeguard on duty. Sadly, I haven’t been back because I can’t swim my full hour without having to stop and get out for the break. I understand safety issues, but if the pool is empty, I don’t understand why the lifeguard needed a break? 🤔

Place is well kept and nice, my only issue is there is no sidewalks or bike lanes at all leading up to this ymca, I like to ride my bike to go places so it’s pretty disappointing. Other than that great place

I have never seen something so stupid like this! Y’all can thank Pamela for cancelling my membership without my confirmation! I inquired last week about the difference between the Y in Harrisburg and the Keith-Family location because the Harrisburg location was only 0.4 miles closer to my home. This inquiry was made AFTER i emailed customer service due to the fact it took DAYS to receive a response when I was able to get my questions answered over the phone. Finally Ms. “Pam” emails me back and explains to me information I already know - she proceeds to tell me if I was interested in canceling my membership to “ PLEASE CONFIRM SO SHE CAN PROCEED WITH CANCELLATION.” Wouldn’t that mean I would have to email her back and say “yes, confirmed, cancel my membership!” Clearly not, Because I did NOT proceed by emailing her and agreeing to push forward with my cancellation, I actually put it off until today and I check my email, and she STILL cancelled my membership. And just off the basis that I’ve called this location 5 times this morning to address this over the phone - the fact I can’t even reach someone is even more flustering, I’ll happily take my business elsewhere. Because for $175/month for a membership before my discount, your employees shouldn’t be this incompetent.

I love the Keith Family YMCA in Charlotte. The people are genuinely kind, and years ago I even spoke here on affordable housing, so this place means a lot to me. The steam room and sauna can be hit or miss—sometimes they are down or no one seems to know how to reset them on Thursday nights—but in the bigger picture, that is minor compared to the atmosphere.What really matters is how the staff greet everyone with warmth and make the building feel like a neighborhood hub at a time when our neighborhoods are being redefined. They create a welcoming space that brings people together.My only real criticism is the flags in the gym. If you are going to take the time to select flags from different countries, figure out how many are needed to fill the walls, purchase and receive them, and send a crew up into the rafters to hang them, it is worth taking one more step to hang them correctly. Some national flags, when hung upside down, backward, or in the wrong direction, can resemble a different flag or send an unintended message.This actually feels like a great opportunity for a youth project or competition: let young people go through the flags, identify the country, determine the correct orientation, and name the capital city. It would turn a small facilities issue into a fun, educational activity that builds global awareness and pride in their Y.

This facility has everything I need to keep me moving all throughout the year. It’s well maintained, clean and the staff are engaging making me feel at home. I love the variety of classes available some that are familiar to me and exciting new ones to try. It’s family oriented which is huge plus. It’s one of the best facilites I’ve ever been too.
