Phelps Recreation Center in South Oak Cliff is a City of Dallas Park and Recreation center that runs the department's summer camp for teens - it is the system's designated teen location, ages 13 to 17, while the department's other rec centers serve ages 5 to 12. Camp runs eight weeks, Monday through Friday, with arts and crafts classes, sports clinics, fitness sessions, cultural and enrichment classes and games. Start dates follow the aligned school district's calendar, and registration opens in May; the center also offers cheerleading, youth dance and an after-school program year-round.

Powered by GoogleLove Phelps!! The folks at the rec center are great. The workout room maybe small but it has enough to keep my muscles sore.
Friendly people! It is always a pleasure to have an available space for recreation. The city could allocate more funds to this facility though. It's not as nice as those on the "other side" of town.. Bit the adjacent park is nice. Again, it could stand new bleachers and the walking trail could use some improvement. Sad that this is what the black neighborhood has to work with. Still, love the possibilities that exist here!
I grew up at this Center doing that time there was dance classes Karate classes even gymnastics there. We were all one big family then Mr Theo the janitor was like a father to many kids who had none. It was a great place.
The fields are well maintained. We didn't experience the actual recreational center itself, but if they're doing this for the field the rec center itself has to be nice! It's not even baseball season, but the baseball field was lined & grounds churned! Would love to come back & see the rest. Great job guys!
This is a nice place to workout. The parking could be better, the lot is small it can only accommodate around 25-30 cars, however you have the option of parking on the street. There center actually is surrounded by a very nice parking if you prefer to workout out side or even have a picnic. I was really surprised when I went inside. The exterior was dated so I wasn't sure what to expect. It has a small but very upset to date weight room with new equipment. It also has a nice size gym and a lot of space for different activities. I was impressed with the various weekly activities offered to seniors. I went to the rec looking for a Zumba class and was dissapointed to learn that they were not offering one. The young lady at the desk was very helpful and referred me to a different location that offers one. She also mentioned that they have a personal trainer available who has a excellent weight training class for teenagers. l look forward to going back and getting a membership and working out. I recently lost 50 pounds and need to do some heavy lifting. So if you looking to workout in a nice, peaceful, hassle free zone, then this might work for you!
