Nice updated gym, good atmosphere, however it's the only YMCA on the island that requires you to leave your license at the front desk before entering with your companion with a membership. That's all good for them however I've left my license by accident, NOT FUN since I live on the North Shore. Ugh!

My family got this membership out of convenience that everything is in a single place: gym, swimming, classes, etc. but we mainly use it on the weekends for swimming. The best part of the pool is exiting it. The family swim is always so cold. We take our toddler there to teach him to swim and while we do bring our own toys they place the toys for the swim lessons out in the open so he is constantly trying to get to them. When he tries to take one the lifeguards yell at us to put them back and that they are for swim lessons only. Ok so put the toys away…taking a toy away from a toddler that can clearly see them is not a pleasant experience. Pool is ALWAYS so cold. Pool is kind of dirty around the pool area/deck area. There’s standing water. So you have mildew/gross grout. The one star is for Pilates- their saving grace. Best class ever and if they didn’t have this class I wouldn’t have the membership at all probably.

I spend many happy hours a week at the YMCA. There are so many nice people there... Both employees and fellow members. I take Water Fitness classes, play volleyball and pickleball, and do personal training with the fabulous Sue. The YMCA has been life changing for me in my retirement.

Safety first parent

I am extremely disappointed by a recent safety incident at this YMCA bay shore location. The lifeguard on duty did not act professionally and failed to ensure swimmer safety. Her behavior actually increased risk instead of preventing it. A lifeguard should be alert, trained, and ready to respond to swimmers in distress—especially when children are present. Unfortunately, that was not the case during my visit. This raises serious concerns about staff training and supervision. YMCA is supposed to be a safe environment for families. Based on this experience, safety standards were not met. I hope management takes this issue seriously and reviews their lifeguard practices carefully.

The YMCA has always been a delightful place to be, and it has recently undergone a complete renovation. The new machines are incredibly impressive, making workouts more enjoyable and effective. The friendly staff is always welcoming and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience for all members. The parking facilities are convenient and easily accessible, adding to the overall convenience of the location. The pool is beautifully maintained, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and exercise. Always had childcare, and seasonal summer Camp among other things. I enjoyed working out today
