Elmwood Day Camp is a summer day camp for children ages 3–12 at 900 Dobbs Ferry Road in White Plains, NY, built around four core areas: athletics, creative arts, performing arts, and swim. Powered by GoogleI recently visited Camp Elmwood with my husband to ask for information about the program and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We went in person hoping to speak with someone directly about the camp and learn more about the program. When we arrived at the school the women at the door told us to call a number posted on the door so someone could come downstairs and speak with us. We were never even welcomed past the front steps and were left standing outside the entire time. After calling the number we were simply told the program was full. No one ever came downstairs to speak with us and no one took the time to explain the program or even mention the possibility of applying next year. The interaction felt very cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming. As someone who works in hospitality I understand how important first impressions and “moments of truth” are. Even if a program is full families should still be treated with kindness, professionalism, and respect. Unfortunately, the way we were treated made me feel very small and unwelcome. Based on this experience I would never want to send my child to a place where families are treated this way.
Our family could not be more thrilled with Elmwood and what it has to offer, from the talented and caring staff to the modern and ever expanding facilities to the endless activities and special event days every day of summer is exciting. My child came home happy every day and spends the 10 months after camp ends counting the seconds until the next summer! We could not recommend Elmwood more for a family who is looking to send their child to a warm, supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates each child for exactly who they are!
As a former camper and counselor and now as a mom of two Elmwood campers, I can say that Elmwood Day Camp is truly something special. The environment that Hillari and Gregg (directors) have created and sustained over the years is second to none. My kids are well cared for and nurtured as they are encouraged and challenged to face new obstacles. Hillari and Gregg make communication with parents a priority to keep families well informed of the daily ongoings of camp life. My kids soak up every bit of Elmwood everyday and hop down off the bus in the afternoon with endless stories from Gregg’s silly wigs during morning meeting to finally solving the missing shoe mystery. Elmwood Day Camp is close to home making bus rides to and from camp short for my kids and the camp itself is on the smaller size making walking from one activity to the next easy (especially for my 4 year old). Although the campus is small, the amount and range of activities for the campers are seemingly endless. Each summer, Elmwood has something new to offer- from a brand new basketball arena to an amazing ropes course to Elmville, my kids return to explore new adventures. I couldn’t be happier as a parent knowing that my kids are having another fantastic, exciting and safe summer at Elmwood. We are all looking forward to Summer 2025 (and 26, and 27, and…) to see what camp has in store for us.
Elmwood Day Camp truly is the most wonderful and magical place on earth! My 3 children have been attending for years and love it so much - they are happy, safe, learning, and growing each and every day. The staff is amazing, the counselors are kind and caring, and I only wish I could attend as an adult. We love, love, love Elmwood! It's a great place to be me!
My daughter has spent summers at Elmwood for several years. She came in with some social struggles and the warm and caring staff supported her with socialization and overall growth. The swimming component is excellent and the range of activities comprehensive. Elmwood is well organized and provides a safe and fun environment for kids to enjoy summer trying new things and learning a wide range of skills. Transportation is also available and the bus counselors and drivers have been fantastic. Throughout the year, Elmwood will send cards or small gifts and the excitement from my daughter reinforces how attached and engaged she is with Elmwood. Highly recommend!
