Camp Chateaugay is a co-ed, traditional overnight (sleepaway) summer camp for ages 7-17 on 250-plus acres along a mountain lake in Merrill, in the Adirondacks, operating since 1946. Campers choose from 60-plus electives spanning land and water sports, gymnastics, arts and theater, horseback riding, and a climbing wall and heated pool, plus multi-day hiking, canoeing, and rock-climbing trips. It emphasizes independence, confidence, and friendship.

★★★★★Joanna SchwabMy kids have been attending Camp Chateaugay for the past few summers-- my daughter just completed her 4th year and my son his second. The kids have the best time-- they love waterskiing on the absolutely incredible lake, doing "jungle" (ropes course) or even the pool parties. There are always lots of fun activities and extras-- they do a nice balance of encouraging bunk bonding and letting the kids be independent with choosing their own activities. My daughter even chooses to have her birthday there and loves the special banana boat celebration. The kids are home now singing camp songs and planning for next summer. It's a lovely camp and nice camp community where kids get to be kids in a cared for and beautiful, magical setting!

I can honestly say there is no place they would rather be in the summertime (and probably year round if that was an option!) Ever summer they come home with new interests and skills. The level of personal growth and independence they have gained is beyond measure. When I jokingly asked my younger son if he was sure he wanted to return next year, he said "how is that even a question" :)

Highly responsive camp staff - I don't think we ever went more than 12 hours without a response - usually less. And an experience that our son described as "the best ever". From water sports to the athletic field; from the bunkhouse to the canteen. And from the mountain bike trails to the hiking trails, he had only wildly positive things to say.
