Lacrosse is more regional than most sports on the site. Nationally, about four in ten lacrosse programs are in five states, and families in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Massachusetts will find far more choice nearby than families elsewhere.

Boys’ and girls’ lacrosse are different games, with different rules and different equipment. Boys wear helmets and pads while girls wear goggles and far less protection, so check which game a program teaches before you sign up. Gear adds a real cost on top of the fee, and it is worth asking whether a program lends equipment to beginners before you buy a full set.
