Love this camp!!! I went with two of my friends and they let us request to stay in the same cabin it was great! The only downsides are you should definitely bring some Advil because if you get sick the nurses are essentially hired moms in t shirts. But they have a granola and salad bar for campers who have allergies and food restrictions which is really great. They also keep you happy and entertained as much as possible and (most of) the counselors are really nice. Here’s a few tips as a returning camper: - bring a metal water bottle to keep your water cold - bring some Advil if possible - take the bunk with the black mattress they’re softer - come up with a plan for showering and make a very fast routine (they only give you somewhere between 2-5 minutes to shower!!) - bring some books for entertainment during BOB time(BOB time is the midpoint in the day where you back to your cabin for a few hours and rest. - Make sure to bring lots of peanut free snacks!!
I went to this camp two years ago in 2023 and my experience wasn’t great. Cabins: The cabin was pretty nice. It had ac and fans to keep it cool. The bathroom was bad. It was very dirty and the stall doors didn’t lock properly. The showers didn’t have hooks for your towels. Idk where you’re supposed to put those. Counselors: Some counselors are good and kind while others aren’t. I woke up one morning very sick and my counselor wouldn’t let me go to the nurse. I told her my chest hurt when I breathed and she said “just drink water and you’ll fine.” Most counselors are really nice and supportive though. Activities: The activities are pretty fun. My favorites were swimming, backyard games, and the rock wall. I don’t remember any of the other activities but they were pretty fun. Food: most of the food was good. But one food was not. Mystery meatballs. Idk what was in those but it was bad. There were chunks of unions and it was tough but somehow chewy. The best meal was the lasagna. It might be different now but when I went there you were allowed to bring snacks. So bring some if you can. This camp was ok but I think camp thunderbird was better.
Last year my son age 9 went for the first time he loved it so we sent him again this summer . He sent home a message saying he wanted to stay another week. What a great feeling when your kiddo is gone for entire week . Thanks ymca family for making him feel at home and for a wonderful experience
