YMCA of Greater Charlotte · YMCA

YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge is an overnight camp on more than 2,000 acres of land, streams and trails in the Brushy Mountains, about 90 miles from Charlotte, serving campers ages 6-16. Sessions are gender-separated and age-banded: four-day Mini Camp for ages 6-9, one-week sessions for ages 6-11 and 12-16, two-week Jr. Teen (11-13) and Teen (14-16) sessions, and a three-week Leaders In Training track for rising juniors. Days combine hiking, survival skills, aerial adventure, mountain biking, archery and sporting clays, performing and visual arts, and waterfront paddling, sailing and swimming, with campers' swimming ability assessed on arrival. Campers stay in air-conditioned log cabins with bathrooms and eat family-style; the operator describes the programme as 'faith-centered' with devotions and campfire gatherings, states American Camp Association accreditation and Christian Camp & Conference Association membership, and offers donor-supported need-based financial assistance.

This place brings back some wonderful experiences for me. Pure joy to be an adult and still be able to play. The high ropes are exhilarating, zipline, hiking and the views were definitely fun too. But, the ladies in the kitchen were my favorite part! I attended a women's weekend retreat there several times. We loved their homemade cookies and we all sent them gratitude cards. The cookies were in consistently in the top 5 readings to come back. I visited a few times to hike and visit with friends I met that lived there and they always made me a to go basket of cookies. Kindness and memories wrapped in morsels of love!

Y-guides Fall Longhouse was great. Staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly. New chef had really stepped it up in the kitchen with fresher and healthier options as well gluten-free and vegetarian options. Cabins are comfy and clean. Horseback riding. Our 2nd visit and it's just getting better!
