Viridian Sailing Center runs five-day youth sailing camps on Lake Viridian in Arlington, where campers learn how wind moves a sailboat, the parts of the boat, wind strength and direction, flotation fundamentals and basic weather, with supervised time on the water in Optimist training sailboats. Sessions are half-day: mornings for kids ages 8-12 and afternoons for teens ages 13-17. A separate end-of-summer Youth Racing session is open to returning sailors ages 8-12 who have completed the basic youth session. The center is part of the Viridian master-planned community and also rents sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards.

My husband and I attended a sailing class in May. The staff and equipment are awesome. These people know their stuff. Highly recommend them. You don't have to be a resident of the neighborhood to join or rent the equipment.

VSC has everything. Learn to sail. Learn to race. Tremendous fun in north Arlington.

I LOVE the VSC. It's a great place with great people. Want to learn to sail? This is the place. They also have fun and competitive sailboat racing on Tuesday nights in the summer. Not to mention junior classes. Sailing not your thing? They also offer kayaks and paddle board memberships. I've been a going out to the facility since it opened three years ago. Met some wonderful people, and love the Tuesday night fun! The pic is of my daughter and me racing in the Viridian Cup last year.

Great "hidden gem" sailing center. Having wanted to sail for years (and never gotten to it), decided to take an Adult Learn to Sail course at this local sailing facility. The staff is great - made it easy to learn sailing from and leaves you wanting to sail more (since it is fun). Wound up buying an annual pass and was one of the best things I could have done. Meeting the other passholders you quickly learn what a great environment this is. Everyone is willing to help you as needed and pass on their knowledge to help you gain more sailing experience. They have four boat fleets to choose from (optis for youth, aeros for single handed and racing, quests for 2-4 casual sailing, and catamarans as well). I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who has an interest in sailing - whether you are a novice (like I was) or an experienced sailor. As a bonus, their Dock Manager is a true wealth of knowledge being a national champion, former America's Cup sailor, former Olympic sailing qualifier, and who knows how many other accolades.
