Rush Creek Yacht Club runs a summer sailing camp on Lake Ray Hubbard in Heath, about 35 minutes east of downtown Dallas, for youth ages 5-18 from first-timers to competitive racers. General Camp (ages 8 and up) runs Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., teaching boat maneuvering, racing basics and teamwork in Optimists and Club 420s, with pool games and a Friday sailing demonstration for parents; Tadpoles (ages 5-8) is a half-day pre-beginner class ending at noon. Every camper must pass a swim test, and seven weekly sessions run from early June through the end of July. Camp is open to non-members at a higher rate, with a 10 percent discount for additional weeks or a second child.
