Stony Brook Acres Day Camp

Sent in all of my children’s information before camp started including paperwork with my son’s Down Syndrome diagnosis. Paid a hefty registration fee for all 3 kids plus weekly fee only for them to tell us after one week that they couldn’t accommodate our disabled son’s needs. They continued to charge us for him being there for another month and refuse to refund the registration fee. Several weeks later I get a call that my daughter got hurt in the pool. Took her to the er and she had broken her collarbone because another kid jumped on top of her in the pool. We’ve been trying to get straight answers about getting a refund and nobody knows who is in charge of anything. We’ve been tossed around between different workers who don’t know what they’re doing, one of which promised us a full refund which never happened. Horribly dysfunctional and unprofessional all around. The only bright spot was that the nurse contacted me quickly when my daughter was hurt so we could get her taken care of. Absolute nightmare in every other way. Disgusted.

★★Cereal Is Soup

As a kid, i did not enjoy it. You have almost no freedom, and have to follow your group around. Sone counsulers were rude, and clearly didn't want to be there. The nurse doesn't actually help with anything, they just give you a bandage and tell you to walk it off. Did not enjoy, even as a 8 - 11 year old.

So i started going to stony brook when I was in 6 grade and I stopped going when I was in 8 grade. The camp is fine its really small though, I wish there was more there. The people are great so if any parents reading this want to let there child go to a summer camp they should go to stony brook acres.

We sent our oldest here 12 years ago and now our younger two kids go every summer. Staff seem to be on top of things. A little expensive but so worth it!
