The Somerville YMCA runs a structured co-ed summer day camp out of 101 Highland Avenue for boys and girls ages 5 to 13. The program is built as ten single-week sessions running Monday through Friday, and each session includes two or three all-day field trips to state parks, beaches, museums, historical sites, sporting events and other educational destinations. Days run 8:00am to 4:00pm with extended care available until 5:30pm for every group, and enrollment is open by the week at $325 per session with a $50 per-week deposit at registration.

★Ellen FerreiraIt’s so gross. The worst ymca I’ve been to. Inside seems like you are going into captivity or inside a jail. They only have 5 treadmills which 2 aren’t working. I’ve never felt so bad inside a gym.

At first you might think just the building and facilities are old, but I was surprised to see an elderly man watching a Laurel and Hardy film in one of the small upstairs offices. This may also strain credulity, but believe it or not -- there is a man in an iron lung living in the basement. Wow! I really liked the quirkiness of the owner of this particular YMCA (a very nice guy), a brolic mustachioed man who typically wears pinstripe unitards.
