Sailing school at the Marina 59 boatyard on Jamaica Bay running a Youth Summer Sailing program for children ages 6-14, with hands-on instruction in Optimist dinghies. The program meets five mornings a week through July and August at a listed weekly fee of $540. Because sessions are mornings only, this is a half-day program rather than a full-day camp. The school also offers private children's lessons and an after-school sailing program during the school year.

Powered by GoogleSean was great! He took us out on a very windy day to see the marsh and birds. The said was fun and we saw a bunch of birds and learned more about the bay and the preserve area. Very cool experience. Highly recommend!
Beautiful sailing in Jamaica Bay. Fun, easy boats with really knowledgeable and engaging instructors. You can tell they're really passionate about helping broaden access to sailing and the city's unique water ways. Learned a lot, actually got to do a little sailing as opposed to just riding which is really fun. 100 percent worth it and the beach is right there for a quick dip after.
We had the most amazing sailing experience with Sean on his lovey boat. The views were all beautiful, from the NY skyline to an abundance of nature, birds, and fish. It was such relaxing, enjoyable, pleasant trip. I can't wait to come back and do it again!
Sean provided an outstanding sailing experience during my visit to Rockaway! It was my first time sailing and his sailboat is safe for kids and holds up to six people. He provides cushions to sit in, in addition to a music speaker to play your own music and also binoculars to get a closer look at some of the attractions that he will identify along the sail route. I had an afternoon sail, and learned that Sean also offers sunrise and sunset sails too! Feel free to bring along a few snacks and beverages while enjoying this sailing experience. I found this sailing experience brought me so much peace in just those two hours. Sean demonstrated professionalism, respect and kindness while sharing his vast sailing expertise. Best sailing experience ever!
Sean took myself and two others out for the sunrise sail. He’s knowledgeable and clearly at one with the bay! His local outfit is unique and we found ourselves in areas bursting with birds, marshes on either sides of the boat..so much natural beauty! Marina 59 is a hip place full of houseboats and small boats, a really unique community. I have been coming to Rockaway for 20 years and this is my first time getting so up close and personal with the bay, thanks to Sean at Sail Rockaway! Left with a dozen fresh oysters from the North Fork he shucked for me also, score!!!
