Powered by GoogleThe Sound Sailing program is like being in a family of incredible sailors with sailboats. They have a great team of professional sailors who prepare and teach you with patience. They want you to succeed and have multiple programs from basic to higher levels that help you to develop and grow your confidence and skills. Once you are certified, they offer a flexible membership program to continue to sail on their boats. Sound Sailing is a fantastic option that gets you started and keeps you sailing without the expense and effort of owning your own sailboat.
Sound Sailing Center (SSC) should be designated as a Fairfield County local treasure. First, residents are lucky to have the beautiful Long Island Sound at their doorstep and SSC provides the boats and the skills to get out there and enjoy it. Everything from small boat skills on comfortable Pearson ensigns (but still with a cockpit that can fit a family) or memberships on larger cruising yachts, SSC has an option to fit your needs without the hassle and expense of ownership. But the real treasure is having someone with the deep knowledge, skills and dedication that owner, Martin, has to convert complete newbies into genuinely competent sailors. Highest marks possible for SSC.
Great way to learn sailing in this family-run school. I completed 3 courses here: Intro to sailing, basic keelboat, and basic cruising. A lot of hands-on practice gave me the confidence in my abilities to enjoy this great outdoor sport. Their annual daysailor membership is by far the easiest no-hassle way to sail in the sound and is totally worth the money (compared to owning and maintaining a boat).
I spent the summer in Norwalk and Sound Sailing Center was one of my favorite activities. - Great classes (took the Intro and Basic Keelboat) - Instructors were knowledgeable and friendly and you could tell they really loved sailing - They have great boats (Ensigns) - these things are very forgiving for beginners but as I got better I could really get them to do what I wanted I'm heading back to NYC but will really miss this place. The staff is a wonderful family and super helpful with anything I needed! Highly recommend the classes and membership.
I owned a 33 ft Hunter sloop in Norwalk for five years. That was a lifetime ago. I miss that boat! Now it's OPB's- other people's boats...When I found Sound Sailing I was able to use a number of different boats in the membership category I joined. It was great to sail again. Martin is an expert, a true professional and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. My needs were complicated by my schedule and Martin was very accommodating in many respects. Their utmost concern is our safety. I've been sailing for about 20 years. I sent my wife to the school for some basic classes and she did well (though she worked harder than she does when she goes sailing with me!). An awesome perk of this organization is that there are a couple of boats up in Mystic for the members. We were able to take boats from Mystic and sail in Fischer's Island Sound and over to RI which was really cool and then another time we sailed over to Block Island for an awesome weekend. I got a lot of stars from my wife for that weekend! It was great. Thanks to Martin and the staff for your service and expertise! We're looking forward to future good times!
